Those who own and use smart devices are mostly early adopters, driven mainly by functionality and more tolerant of poor user experiences. But as the market grows to encompass the early and late majority, the user experience of Internet of Things (IoT) devices will become more and more important, making the present a particularly appropriate time to better understand what people will expect from the user experience, and where glitches in it may create barriers that delay adoption and hold back great ideas. We undertook some in-home, ethnographic research and our white paper highlights the key challenges of designing for the Internet of Things – and how to overcome them.
